How to generate a METRC API key

Permissions

API keys from METRC are generated by and tied to a specific user within an organization. Its important to know that the API key generated will only be able to pull data for the licenses that user has permissions to. 

Take this example: CannaGrow, an fake cannabis company, has 3 grow licenses and 1 processing license. Mary Jane is a compliance officer for CannaGrow, specializing in grow operations. Because she doesn't work at the processing facility, Mary Jane does not have permissions to the processing license in METRC. 

If her API key is the only METRC API key entered, there will be no data from the processing license in Appature. 

Generating a METRC API key

1. Navigate to your state's METRC website, and log in with your state-issued credentials
   
   
   
2. Navigate to the upper-right corner of the page and click the arrow next to your user ID
   
   
   
   
3. Click the option "API Keys"
   
   
   
4. On the API key screen, click the "generate" button at the bottom. An API key will appear in the text box in the middle of the screen. This is the "key" that you will enter into Appature
